You can save lots of money on your utility bills just by replaces appliances that are more than ten years old.  When selecting new appliances carefully read the yellow Energy Star labels to find the one that offer the greatest energy savings.  Choosing carefully can lower your utility bill by as much as 30%.

Test Your Refrigerator
You can see if your refrigerator is costing you too much money be conducing a simple test.  Place a dollar bill in your refrigerator and close the door.  You know that your refrigerator is holding the air well if the dollar bill does not move.  Your refrigerator may be leaking cold air out the door if the dollar bill slides down.  Those leaks can cost you a lot of money, making purchasing a new refrigerator a wise move.

Control Costs with Your Thermostat
Keeping your thermostat at the lowest comfortable level in the winter can end up saving you lots of money.  You will save between two and three percent on your bill for every degree which you are able to lower your thermostat.
